Counselling
The
aim of counselling is to assist clients gain insight into their lives, accept
responsibility and control of their choices and actions, and overcome any barriers
that might impede their personal decision-making. In short, counselling enhances
the clients' independence and capacity to respond positively to life's challenges
and to live with ongoing success in the future.
What can you expect as a client?

Hour-long
private consultations.

The
counsellor who will actively listen to your story.

The
counsellor will not judge you as a person. The counsellor will have
a genuine interest in you and will seek to assist in attaining a positive
outcome for you.

Therapy
will terminate when you are satisfied with the outcome or at a time when
the counsellor determines there to be no further benefit in continuing counselling.

The
number of sessions required varies. Sometimes therapy can be brief: 2 or
3 sessions. In other cases it can last considerably longer.
What
can be expected of you as a client?
- You are expected
to participate and share in the therapy process.
- Sometimes you
will be asked to do some homework for example, practice skills, watch
a video, read some information, listen to a tape, and keep a journal.
